Collecting rare big box adventure games

Remember the days when games came in big, glorious boxes, with luscious cover art and a wealth of fun “feelies” that made them such a delight to open? Yeah, those days are long gone. First small boxes, then digital, and here we are. Meanwhile, many of those wonderful boxed beauties of yesteryear have become cherished collector’s items.
For those of us of a certain vintage, we likely still have shelves or even entire rooms stuffed full of our fondest boxed games, but very few displays are as impressive as Stu’s from Stu’s Game Reviews. Stu has devoted more time and energy and resources than most mortal beings into curating one of if not THE best collection of rare (and often obscure) adventure games in the world.
The topic of our latest show is rare games collecting, so of course we had to have the man himself join Jack and Joshua to talk about their shared passion for collecting (and preserving) these games and the joys and travails of “the hunt,” plus lament a bit over the loss of a deeply nostalgic era, and of course compare whose is bigger. (Collections, that is.) It’s a fun conversation – capped, as always, by a list of everyone’s personal top five big box treasures.
Enjoy the podcast, and if you missed it the first time around, be sure to check out the guest article Stu wrote for Adventure Game Hotspot with ten of the rarest, most obscure big box adventure games in existence.
