Rolling Stone's Top 50 – Where are the adventure games?

Rolling Stone's Top 50 – Where are the adventure games?

What is it with mainstream magazines ranking the best games all of a sudden? First Forbes, and now it’s Rolling Stone listing their 50 greatest video games of all time in a recent article. Somewhat surprisingly, it’s actually a pretty solid list, but Joshua and Jack dig deep into it with their own perspectives, discussing omissions, possible replacements, and tackling a question near and dear to their hearts: why the heck isn’t there a single adventure game on it?!

But who are these “Joshua and Jack” fellows anyway? Talking heads on a podcast, sure, and co-founders of Adventure Game Hotspot, but who are they really, and how did they come to partners in this wonderful joint venture? You’ve got questions, they’ve got answers, from their preferences in gaming to crazy personal stories from their lives. Find out how and why Joshua smuggled a knife aboard a plane, and how close Jack came to being involved in Canada’s bloodiest ever school shooting. Oh, and what exactly happened at Adventure Gamers back in the day?

And of course, there’s a top five to cap things off. Returning the favor to Rolling Stone, this time it’s the top five – or in Jack’s case, favorite five – music albums of all time.

It’s a long show, but a fun one!

  1. I'm surprised there's no Tomb Raider in that list... There are only 5 games in that list I've played all the way through: Uncharted 2, Street Fighter 2, Doom, Final Fantasy 7, and The Last of Us. Of course I did play Tetris, and The Sims but I didn't have the patience for it. I started playing Skyrim because of the hype but stopped after half an hour or so, never returned to it... Didn't play GTA 5 but played the other titles in the series up to 4, which I also played for about an hour, never to return to it... I have also played Tony Hawk for a bit, but Pro Skater 3. And I've played the first Red Dead Redemption but never finished it either.
