Adventure Game Geek's first video of 2024 starts the year off with a mammoth journey into the first two Syberia games .Together they tell the story of Kate Walker, a high-flying American lawyer who finds herself in the village of Valadilene in the French Alps, on a business trip to conclude the sale of a toy factory. But of course this is an adventure game, which means that this isn’t going to be a straightforward assignment, and the toy factory makes more than just toys!

The winner of many adventure game of the year awards when it was released in 2002, Syberia was the artistic vision of Belgian comic artist Benoît Sokal. Sadly, Sokal passed away in May 2021 but his legacy lives on, most recently with Syberia: The World Before in 2022.

In this episode, AGG is joined by fellow gamer Grim Beard, whose review of Syberia was the first video on his YouTube channel almost ten years ago. Here he reminisces about what inspired him to express his thoughts on the game, and how you should under no circumstances watch any of his older videos!

As the story progresses through the first game and its immediate "to be continued" sequel, Kate finds herself getting more and more carried away with this adventure she’s on, to the disbelief of her family and friends back home. But there’s no stopping the mechanical train she’s on, and she finds herself changing from the person she once was into an intrepid adventurer on a journey of self-discovery. Does Kate Walker ever find Syberia and the fabled mammoths? You'll have to play the games to find out, or watch a walkthrough on YouTube… Actually, forget that – just watch AGG’s video right here!
