Tickets! Who needs tickets?! Get your tickets here!
No no, we’re not scalping for the next Taylor Swift concert, just helping spread the word that tickets for AdventureX 2023 are now available!
AdventureX has been going strong since 2011, increasing in size every year until it outgrew its original location and had to move to a bigger one just to fit in all the fans and developers eager to attend. Described as a “celebration of creativity, indie development and geek culture,” to date it remains “the world's only in-person convention dedicated to narrative-driven gaming.” The “only” part will change soon enough when Adventure Game Hotspot hosts its own AGHcon in April 2024, but for now it still is the only one, and AdventureX will always and forever be the first.
After a brief hiatus when the pandemic turned the world upside down, AdventureX returned in 2022, bigger and better than ever, and is raring to follow up with another fun-filled expo later this year. Grab your own one-day or full-weekend pass and you can find out what all the fuss is about!
When: Saturday and Sunday, November 4th and 5th, 2023
Where: The Stockwell Street Building, University of Greenwich, London (fully accessible to wheelchair users)
How: Tickets now on sale: https://www.wegottickets.com/f/13196
As always, AdventureX 2023 will feature a combination of expert talks, panels and hands-on adventure game showcases. This year’s talks include Charles Cecil (Revolution Software), Francisco Gonzalez (Grundislav Games), Tom Jubert (freelance writer on The Talos Principle, The Swapper, SubNautica, FTL and more), and Chella Ramanan (Massive Entertainment, 3-Fold Games), to name just a few of more than dozen guest speakers in total.
For a fun and insightful discussion, you won't want to miss tthe “How to survive as a solo dev – old and new” panel with Dave Gilbert (Wadjet Eye Games), Tony Warriner (Revolution Software), Charlotte Sutherland (Lord Winklebottom Investigates) and Tom Hardwidge (Lucy Dreaming), hosted by Adventure Games Podcast’s Seorise Dunbar. And last but certainly not least will be an end-of-show comedy panel hosted by the always hilarious Alasdair Beckett-King (Nelly Cootalot), with panelists still to be confirmed.
When it’s time to stretch your legs and give your point-and-click fingers a workout, there will be dozens of new and upcoming games on display. Here are just some of the many titles you’ll be able to try out first-hand while chatting with their creators:
Castle Dornstein (Digital Mosaic Games)
CLeM (Mango Protocol)
Death of the Reprobate (Joe Richardson)
Foolish Mortals (Inklingwood Studios)
Heir of the Dog (Tall Story Games)
Octopus City Blues (Ghost in a Bottle)
Paws of Coal (Gamechuck)
Plot of the Druid (Yakir Israel, Adventure4Life Studios)
Underground Blossom (Rusty Lake)
Vagabond Starship (Stand Off Software)
Zid Journey (Azure Mountain)
There’s plenty more where those came from, and even a goodie bag for all those in attendance!
The lasting impression of those who attend AdventureX events is the tremendous sense of community and camaraderie enjoyed by everyone involved as they gather together to share their passion for story-based gaming. Adventure Game Hotspot will be there to report on what we see, but there’s no substitute for personal experience if you’re close enough to attend live. It’s a tremendous bonding experience that creates friends for life, so you don’t want to miss out!
Stay tuned to the AdventureX website for updates in the coming months, including a full list of exhibitors for 2023. And for some insider background while you wait, be sure to check out our podcast with organizer Tom Cole as he talks about how AdventureX has grown and evolved over the years to become the destination event it is today.
