Campy 1990s point-and-click horror adventure inspired by classic YA books like Fear Street and Point Horror

What Stranger Things has done for 1980s young adult horror, book and film series like Fear Street and Point Horror are doing for the 1990s. Inspired by the success of the latter is Super Chillers: The Chat Room, an upcoming retro-styled point-and-click adventure by indie developer Rose Arcana Games.

It's 1994, and everyone at Nari's high school is consumed with talk of a "mysterious chat room that posts eerily accurate horoscopes — foretelling events before they happen with chilling precision." No one knows who's writing them, or how they're so disturbingly prescient, but "when the predictions turn dark and murders start occurring, Nari realizes the horoscopes might be more than just creepy coincidences." Now, in order to put an end to the deadly pattern and avoid becoming the target of the next prophecy of doom herself, Nari must "dive into a suspenseful web of secrets and lies" and uncover the truth before it's too late. 

Just as Super Chillers' thematic inspirations come from the 1990s, so too do its aesthetic and gameplay. The game is presented in classic-styled pixel art with a simple two-button (use, look) point-and-click interface, with a hidden inventory easily accessible at the top of the screen. Your quest will see you "explore eerie locations, encounter a host of quirky characters, and solve mind-bending puzzles," all with a distinctively campy, tongue-in-cheek vibe that is "dripping with suspense and retro charm." But don't get too comfortable with all its familiar nostalgic trappings, as "the clock is ticking, and ... the killer is always lurking."

There is no target release date yet for when Super Chillers: The Chat Room will be released on Steam for Windows PC. Fortunately, you can already check out a playable prologue on itch.io, in which you control a young woman named Jessa, whose bad night is about to get worse when her boyfriend is late to pick her up from the local video store where she works.
