First-person supernatural detective thriller in the forests of Norway coming to PC in early 2025

What really happened to the Vikings and their pantheon of Norse gods who disappeared so suddenly and completely? Oh sure, there's the usual historical account of their overreach and ultimate failure as conquerors, but does that tell the whole story? According to solo developer Midnight Forge, the answer is: not even close. The rest will be up to players to discover in the upcoming supernatural first-person detective thriller, Nowhere

Despite its title, the game very much takes place somewhere: namely the eerie Scandinavian forests of Forollhogna. You are a detective assigned to investigate the disappearance of a group of tourists, but this will prove to be no normal missing persons case. As night closes in, it becomes clear that there's "more to the story than meets the eye." You find yourself mysteriously trapped in these woods, unable to escape, with the ever-present feeling that you're being watched. Before long you be plunged "headfirst into a unique and terrifying spin on Norse mythology" that will force you to "piece together the doomed story of the gods after Ragnarök." You'll collect evidence of the missing campers along the way, but you'll have to be careful if you want to live to tell the tale. With shades of Silent Hill, whenever a "horn blares in the distance, the forest twists and corrupts around you, transforming into a nightmare version of itself." When this happens, the sky turns blood red and draugrs will roam the land to "stalk you from the shadows, waiting until your back is turned."

Presented in free-roaming first-person 3D, Nowhere promises a mix of "hardcore" detective gameplay and survival horror in a suspenseful atmosphere steeped in Norse mythology. Favouring a "slow build-up of tension to instil fear and dread, instead of jumpscares," the game is designed to appeal those who "love a good mystery and also love to be scared." You can explore the creepy open-world, nonlinear environments at your own pace – except, of course, when hunted by the "unimaginable horrors [that] lurk within the shadows beneath the pines." As you "uncover the secrets of an archaic and haunting ritual" that occurred here, through scattered journal pages, photos and other environmental clues, you can refer to your personal case board and form your own theories about what happened. The game refuses to hold your hand, so it's up to you to gather all the evidence you need and form the correct conclusions to successfully solve the case – or not.

While the full version of Nowhere isn't expected out until sometime in early 2025 for Windows PC, a demo has just been released on Steam, providing about 20-30 minutes of gameplay.
