Action/adventure set around a submerged city available now on PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch

Normally walking on water is reserved for biblical messiahs, but now just anyone can do it in Thunderful's newly released action/adventure Wavetale.

Indeed, Sigrid not only has the ability to walk on water, but to run, jump, and glide across it thanks to a newfound ability granted to her by an "enigmatic shadow" that she befriends. That proves useful, as the teenaged protagonist lives on a small island in the "decaying archipelago of Strandville," which is dominated by what remains of a once-thriving city, now largely submerged beneath the ocean's surface. What's worse is that the survivors are threatened by towering sea creatures, so it's up to to Sigrid to use her new powers to surf the sea, explore the dry remnants of the sunken city, conquer the creatures and discover the "well-kept secrets of this mysterious aqueous land" in order to "unravel stories of the past."

Presented in stylish cel-shaded third-person 3D, Wavetale features more action than a traditional adventure with some combat and light platforming required. However, it still retains a strong focus on exploration and puzzle-solving throughout its "heart-warming story about loss and reconciliation." Even on dry land you have the extraordinary ability to leap and swing yourself great distances with the help of your unique net, which you'll need to in order to "defeat an old nemesis to save the citizens of the islands." Along the way you'll meet a variety of other characters, ranging from the "charmingly cocky surfer girl to an old fisherman turned fashion designer," and perhaps "even a pirate or two." It pays to be thorough, too, as observant players can seek out collectibles to change the young heroine's appearance, and "fill the pages of Sigrid’s scrapbook with special drawings to learn more about her world."

If you're ready to dive right in, both literally and figuratively, there's no stopping you as Wavetale is available now on Steam for Windows PC, along with Stadia and console versions for PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch.
