Console versions of first-person Taiwanese survival horror coming later this year

It's a safe bet that Taiwanese universities don't advertise "haunted with terrifying supernatural entities" on their recruitment brochures, but it seems more than a few of them should come with a safety warning in the fine print, at least. After terrifying gamers in Tunghu University in 2022's The Bridge Curse: Road to Salvation, Softstar Entertainment is back with an upcoming sequel that brings another school's urban legend to life in The Bridge Curse 2: The Extrication.

This time around, the scares take place in Wen Hua University, a place "renowned for its eerie ghost tales across Taiwan." Skeptical of the horror stories told about it, the univerity's film club decides to capitalize on its reputation to recruit new members by staging a "'Carnival of Horror' within the infamously haunted Da Ren building." In "resurrecting a decades-old campus mystery for their planned viral horror film," a group of four students ventures inside the school in the dark of night for their shoot. Unfortunately for them, as "their cameras roll amidst the shadows, the line between fiction and reality blurs, and inexplicable events begin to unfold." Alternating control between each of the unwitting students, players will begin to uncover the "hidden conspiracies rooted within the university," but the school has other ideas and the question soon becomes whether you will "survive the night, or become the latest victim of the curse."

Like its predecessor, The Extrication is presented as a first-person, free-roaming 3D survival horror experience for maximum spooky immersion. As you "traverse winding corridors and navigate through a labyrinth of rooms" designed to feel authentic, you can use the school map to "uncover hidden pathways and escape routes" that may just make the difference between life and death. You'll encounter many puzzles to solve along the way, as well as cryptic clues and unusual artifacts that reveal more of the story behind the curse afflicting the school, but you must always remember that on this night you are "no longer a student; you are prey." If you're to make it out alive, you must evade, distract or outsmart a variety of "formidable ghosts" lurking in these "shadow-drenched halls," from the "hilariously bizarre 'Sergeant Huang' to the bone-chillingly sinister presence of the 'Mad Ballerina.'" Stealth is your best option to sneak around unscathed, but in an emergency you can use the limited charges of your lantern to "stun your phantasmal hunters just long enough for you to make a getaway."

The Bridge Curse 2: The Extrication is nearly ready to welcome its first victims, with an expected release date of May 9th on Steam for Windows PC, followed later this year on GOG and Epic, along with console releases for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch.
