Lorelei and the Laser Eyes sets its sights on 2023 release

Surreal nonlinear puzzle adventure coming later this year to PC and Nintendo Switch

At their core, adventure games are essentially narrative mazes that players are asked to navigate, all while solving puzzles along the way. The upcoming Lorelei and the Laser Eyes takes this notion and runs with it in a far more tangible way, as we’ll soon see when the game releases on PC and Switch later this year.

Story details are intentionally vague, but players assume the role of a woman who wanders into an “old baroque manor, perhaps a hotel or a museum, somewhere in central Europe.” There she meets a variety of eclectic characters who raise more questions than they answer, including an “international auteur” and a “vagabond illusionist,” along with an “aristocratic artist” who’s been killed. What is this place, and how do these characters – and you, the “wandering lady” with the laser eyes – fit into all this? The only way to find out is to proceed through this “maze of deceptions,” paying close attention to every detail you observe along the way.

Presented largely in black and white with traces of accent colour, Lorelei and the Laser Eyes is a nonlinear adventure set in a “nightmarish surreality.” The story promises to go in some “metaphysical” directions that explore your dreams and memories, but why? Is this “all part of a macabre game, a complot, a simple treasure hunt?” Perhaps the latest trailer offers some insight, teasing a premise about being recruited into an international association investigating incidents across time, a process designed to test your interest and ability in “interpreting patterns and solving puzzles,” as well as your “receptiveness to unconventional concepts.”

Developed by Simogo and published by Annapurna Interactive, Lorelei and the Laser Eyes has no target release date just yet, but the game is on track to be launched on Steam for Windows PC and the Nintendo eShop for Switch sometime before the end of this year.
