A conversation with Khris Brown, award-winning voice-over industry pioneer
- 0 Comments
Khris Brown, a voice-over veteran with over 30 years of experience, was a pivotal figure in shaping the games VO industry. Though perhaps not as well known by name as some of her adventure genre contemporaries, Khris played a vital role in bringing characters to life in many beloved games, including The Dig, The Curse of Monkey Island, Full Throttle and Grim Fandango. As a founding member of the Lucasfilm Games voice department, she led casting, directing, and set the gold standard for voice production until 1998.
Her accomplishments didn't stop there, however, as her work spans Academy Award-nominated films, Emmy-winning animation series thorugh Skywalker Sound, and numerous highly acclaimed titles from top game studios like Ubisoft (Assassin's Creed series, For Honor), Double Fine Productions (Psychonauts series, Brütal Legend, Broken Age), Telltale Games (Minecraft: Story Mode) and Terrible Toybox (Thimbleweed Park, Return to Monkey Island). She also founded the Narrative Talent Group at Ubisoft Montreal and the voice department at Double Fine, and continues to share her expertise through the company she now leads, VOX Point.
It's been an astonishing career, which Khris generously discusses in detail for nearly four hours in the latest in-depth Tech Talk with Daniel Albu. If you don't know her before you press play, you'll be happy you do by the time you hit stop.
