Sierra On-Line's Quest for Glory II: Trial by Fire is meant to be completed in 30 days. (In-game days, anyway.) Speedrunners are now able to complete the game in a matter of MINUTES.

How many minutes? That's what speedrunner extraordinaire OneShortEye is going to tell us in his next comprehensive video, detailing many of the tricks and secrets and personalities behind each new time-breaking record.

The classic 1990 adventure-RPG hybrid proved to be a tough nut to crack for even the most experienced speed demons, both because of the labyrinthine layout of its two Middle Eastern-inspired cities with a massive desert between them, and because of the strict time limits specifically implemented to prevent players from getting ahead of themselves. Well, gauntlet thrown, challenge accepted by the highly competitive speedrunning community!

OneShortEye's fascinating video details the many methods used to whittle down times, from bypassing seemingly unavoidable built-in wait periods to parser dumping; from surprisingly strategic mouse movement to defying gravity and "spell-gliding" your way past time-consuming obstacles like lava lakes. (Who knew that, in game terms, "turning isn't walking?") Some were major breakthroughs, while others were based on literally split-second calculations, but all are enough to make you say "WOW!" Or "Wow-Wow," as one of the clever game manipulations is known.

So settle in for another in-depth look into the world of speedrunning, as OneShortEye and his guests reveal just how crazy fast Quest for Glory II can be conquered, and the paths taken to achieve it.
