Benoît Sokal's 1999 first-person adventure to be enhanced and "reimagined" with updated content

Before there was Syberia, there was Amerzone: The Explorer's Legacy, the first collaboration between acclaimed comic book artist Benoît Sokal and French publisher Microïds. While a much different game than its mammoth and more famous successors, it's Amerzone that's being revisited first for a modern remake.

The game puts players directly into the first-person shoes of a "daring journalist fulfilling the final wishes of a legendary explorer." As a young man, Alexandre Valembois ventured into the titular Amerzone, a "mysterious Latin American realm reclaimed by nature," meticulously chronicling his adventures along the way. However, in a horrible lapse of judgment, he stole a giant egg belonging to the region's majestic white birds before leaving for home. Many years later, now an old man, Alexandre deeply regrets his decision, and calls upon you to follow in his footsteps and right his wrongs by returning the egg to its proper place. As you begin to "unravel the mysteries of Amerzone's enigmatic past," your journey will take you "deep into the heart of this forgotten land ... navigating through ancient ruins and confronting puzzles that challenge your wits and resolve."

One look at the trailer for the Amerzone remake will demonstrate why the game was ripe for a modernized update. While still a node-based point-and-click adventure rather than full 3D, the game looks poised to deliver on its promise of a "visually stunning odyssey unlike any other," sending players traipsing through a world "brimming with secrets and wonders." But the new game is more than just the old one with a fresh coat of paint; it's a "reimagining of a timeless classic." Along with improved production values to complement the beautiful artistry of the original, the updated version is committed to remaining faithful to the spirit of its predecessor while adding "revamped puzzles and brand new challenges" for a better gameplay experience.

It's not far off, either! While no firm target release date has yet been announced, Amerzone: The Explorer's Legacy redux is due to launch sometime before the end of this year on PC (Steam, GOG, Epic), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S platforms.
