Ghost in the Mirror materializes on Steam for PC

Demo also available for comedic supernatural anthology debut from the creator of Moth Lake and Dentures and Demons

Most ghost stories are told you make you squirm and scream in adrenaline-fueled terror. Ghost in the Mirror, the debut of a new anthology series from indie Italian developer Stefano Mazzotta of Sui Arts that has just been ported to PC, takes a different approach, offering jokes instead of jump scares. 

This first (largely) standalone episode, entitled "Here Be Dragons," takes players back to the eighteenth century to follow the "adventures of Roger, a morally dubious boy" who may or may not be innocent of the crimes he's charged with. Either way, Roger finds himself hungry and alone in a foggy pirate seaside town, his face plastered all over "wanted" posters with guards on the prowl. That's about all the developer has revealed of the story so far, but he'll have plenty to say in-game, as he appears as a wisecracking narrator who can be carried around as a hint system for puzzles. 

As with the developer's previous games, Ghost in the Mirror is a side-scrolling pixel art adventure. Leaving behind Moth Lake's more serious atmosphere, this game returns to the more comedic tone of the mobile-exclusive Dentures and Demons series. So while players can still expect "mysterious elements" throughout, they'll be accompanied by so many "fourth-wall breaks, irony, jokes, and vulgarity, you tend to forget about ghosts!" There's plenty of adventuring to be done along the way, collecting items, solving puzzles, and interacting with colourful characters across seemingly separate stories "all connected by the eerie thread that unites the worlds of the living and the dead." Choices matter as well, as the decisions you make will "determine the outcome of the adventures." And on PC you can tailor the gameplay experience to your preferences, using touchscreen, keyboard, mouse, or controller. 

Originally launched for iOS devices on the App Store and Android on Google Play late last year, Ghost in the Mirror is now available on Steam for Windows PC. If you'd like to laugh before you leap, you can do that too, as a playable demo can be downloaded from Steam or itch.io. New episodes in the anthology series are expected to be released each year until complete.
