Post-apocalyptic cosmic horror narrative adventure unveiled for Windows PC

Sleepovers are generally fun times for kids, full of laughter and bonding and perhaps the odd pillow fight or scary story. It's quite a different matter when a sleepover occurs between the last two survivors on possibly their last night on Earth, as is the case in KittyWampus's upcoming narrative-driven cosmic horror adventure called – you guessed it – Sleepover.

Sometime in the "not-so-distant future," the world's population suddenly disappears in the blink of an eye, leaving a girl named Yuna all alone – or so she thinks. After weeks in her apartment spent grappling with the psychological repercussions of this devastation, struggling to "find meaning in an empty world," Yuna is shocked to hear a knock at her door. Waiting outside is a "mysterious girl," and inviting her in gives the two of them the chance to spend "their final night together as the last humans alive." Determined to make the occasion as happy as they're able, the girls are nevertheless forced to "explore their memories and fears to uncover the truth behind the disappearance" of every human being but them.

Blending cosmic horror with an "intimate character-driven narrative," Sleepover features a blend of lo-fi, first-person 3D exploration and hand-drawn illustrations to unpack the "declining mental state of the protagonist." You're free to wander Yuna's apartment and interact with hotspots via keyboard and mouse, performing certain tasks with simple motion controls when prompted. Before long, however, it will become harder to separate reality from hallucination as Yuna's memories of her family and unresolved feelings of guilt begin encroaching on her thoughts in horrifically manifested ways. Some playable sequences are even more surreal, such as collecting orbs of light, but will gradually come to make sense as you progress. But whatever happens this night, and no matter what emotions are dredged up, there is one rule that mustn't be broken, namely to never "go inside that room." (You'll know which one.)

There is no release date for Sleepover just yet, but the game can now be wishlisted on Steam, where it will launch for Windows PC.
