Experimental point-and-click conspiracy thriller in Ukraine unveiled by the creators of Boxville

Usually the sign of a good puzzle is that it provides everything you need to know to solve it right at your fingertrips. But then there's the occasional game where you need to venture a little outside your comfort zone to dig up the information required, like in Trust No One, the upcoming "experimental" mystery from Triomatica Games.

It's October 25, 2021 in Kyiv, Ukraine, where players assume the role of a journalist attempting to "unravel a web of secrets about a mysterious AI company." In order to discover the identity of your informant, you'll need to "explore the nooks and alleyways of Kyiv" in search of clues. Rather than just presenting traditional adventure game fare, however, here the game itself "tells only half the story." For the full picture, you'll need to "think outside conventional boundaries" if you're to succeed in getting your scoop. You must also question everyone's motives to determine who you can trust – perhaps even including yourself.

Trust No One marks a distinct departure from the developer's previous game, the charming Amanita-styled adventure Boxville. The backgrounds are still hand-drawn and the interface still point-and-click, but gone are the cute cartoon-styled graphics and third-person perspective, replaced here by a more realistic first-person aesthetic, with locations "inspired by real buildings and places in Kyiv." There will be familiar logic puzzles and minigames to overcome along the way, but what makes this game really stand apart is that players will need to "combine in-game and out-of-game open source information" to fully piece together the narrative puzzle. The developers promise another intriguing twist as well, though for now they're keeping it under wraps so as not to spoil the surprise.

We don't have long to wait to find out what that surprise is, as Trust No One is due to launch on mobile devices and Steam for Windows, Mac and Linux (with Steam Deck support) sometime later this quarter, with console ports planned for further down the line.
