The Final Cut of Lilith Cunningham to be ready to roll in 2027

Upcoming paranormal mystery thriller unveiled by the creators of The Haunting of Joni Evers

Last year, Causeway Studios introduced us to one intergenerational tale of troubled women in The Haunting of Joni Evers. For an encore, the indie American developer is sticking with the same connected "Worlds Across the Causeway" universe but leaving the Evers behind to focus on another familial supernatural mystery, The Final Cut of Lilith Cunningham.

The eponymous star is the latest in a line of women who are "sensitive to the supernatural." But Lilith struggles with a much more human problem: regret. Thanks to a terrible decision made long ago, Lilith has spent the many years since "haunted by a life that could have been." Then, just when it seems she may have finally come to terms with her remorse, she "receives a message from her estranged daughter, Sara." But when Lilith arrives at the Alpine Movie Manor Hotel and Drive-In, Sara is nowhere to be seen. It soon becomes clear that her disappearance isn't an isolated incident, forcing Lilith to use her "uncanny abilities" to "piece together clues, solve the mystery of a mass vanishing, and unravel a tangled web of deceit that involves Sara and the other guests and staff of the hotel." Better still, with help from a very special film reel, you will not only be able to uncover the truth, you can alter reality itself and relieve the protagonist's guilt by deciding "what... and who... to leave on the cutting room floor." 

Inspired by the works of David Lynch, The Final Cut of Lilith Cunningham is described as a "desert-noir detective adventure steeped in the supernatural." As with its predecessor, this dark thriller is a first-person, free-roaming 3D adventure with an original soundtrack by Gustavo Coutinho, but there will be some notable changes this time around. Its story of "family, regret, and the strange" promises to combine "tactile detective mechanics" with an eclectic cast of characters filmed live using "surreal full-motion video." Whether a "tortured movie studio executive, a down-on-his-luck private eye [or] an up-and-coming actress with a secret," it's up to you to discern what to believe as "nothing is quite as it seems, and the unlikely answer to your questions may just be the correct one."

What really separates this game from other paranormal mysteries, including Joni Evers, is the presence of a "mystical film reel imprinted with a strange motion picture called The City of Dreams." This device bestows its possessor with the power to "tear through the fabric of reality and restitch it, altering the lives of those ensnared by its power along with the hotel itself." By manipulating its footage, players can "watch how the characters on the film reel and their real-life counterparts change," giving you "control over the lives, values, and personalities of everyone missing." But choices have consequences, as "not everyone can have a storybook ending." Under the "looming presence of a strange and enigmatic entity called The Host and a malevolent specter that wants the film reel for herself," you'll have to keep your cool to "be smart and make hard decisions to develop your own final cut of the film." 

There is no firm target release date just yet, but The Final Cut of Lilith Cunningham is due to wrap production and launch on Steam sometime in 2027 for Windows and Mac.
