Spiritual sequel to Cosmic Void's free 2022 Tommy Gun Witches coming to PC in 2027
Witches might be best known for pointy hats, warty noses, riding brooms and brewing potions, but in the hands of indie developer Aviv Salinas of Cosmic Void, they get up to much darker, more vicious deeds. It's happened once, in the 2022 freeware adventure Tommy Gun Witches, and it'll soon happen again in the upcoming commercial "spiritual sequel" called Tommy Gun Marionettes.
In a world similar to our own and yet shared with with gremlins, devils and other supernatural creatures, people are dying. Again. In the first game, players were called upon to investigate a murder that bore striking similarities to the methods of a group of exiled witches who had recently made a "surreptitious return." Now the situation is even worse, as the witches are "harvesting organs from the city's dead, and this time they've teamed up with mad klowns and marionettes." It's once again up to the "dry-witted" Special Agent Bram of the Arcane Unit to put an end to the killings and bring the perpetrators to justice. But he'll have his work cut out for him in a city "full of witches, squidfolk and pigfolk – most of whom would rather he stopped asking questions."
As with its predecessor, as well as several of Cosmic Void's previous games (Midnight Saturn, Neon Hearts City, Devil's Hideout and more), Tommy Gun Marionettes is first-person pixel art adventure with intuitively simple point-and-click controls. Getting around is as easy as choosing a destination from your map, while a hotspot highlighter and manual save feature help ensure a player-friendly user experience. As you explore the "backstreets, bars and fairgrounds" of the game's "gritty" urban environment, you'll soon find yourself drawn deeper into a "noir case that runs from crime scenes to a very unpleasant teacup ride." Along the way you'll engage in traditional adventuring fare, such as collecting inventory items, solving puzzles, and of course questioning a variety of persons (or... other species) of interest.
Tommy Gun Marionettes is due to arrive sometime in the third quarter of 2027 for Windows PC, which leaves plenty of time to check out the original Tommy Gun Witches on itch.io and the demo on Steam for the upcoming sequel while you wait.
