Hand-drawn comic book teen werewolf mystery coming to Steam for Windows and Mac

Being a teenager is hard enough, but in the upcoming comic book “fun-horror” mystery Frieda is Changing by German developer Mucks! Games, puberty comes with a monstrously hairy dose of lycanthropy to deal with as well. 

On her fourteenth birthday, Frieda’s life in her “isolated island village full of weird stares and locked doors” is getting complicated. Two years ago, her beloved sister Amelie disappeared. Everyone insists she is dead, including her mother and father the mayor, and “no one has really tried to figure out what happened to her.” Already dealing with the raging hormones of someone her age, Frieda is “furious and fed up,” and after holding in so much “bottled-up anger” since her sister vanished, all of that fury comes back with a vengeance – an “almost supernatural” vengeance, because Frieda soon learns that she is somehow “slowly turning into a werewolf,” and the “only way to stop the transformation is to uncover the truth about [Amelie] before the next full moon rises.” 

Depicted in a hand-drawn, colorful cartoony art style, Frieda is Changing may look like a panel-filled comic book and can be quite bitingly funny, but it also promises a “spooky point & click adventure full of emotional twists” and a real mystery to crack. As Frieda, you must explore your island and “question the villagers, uncover clues,” and solve puzzles while poking “around in the messy past everyone wishes would stay buried.” During dialogue, you will be able to choose responses from multiple options, and your selections will “change how people treat” you and the way the story unfolds. Outside of item-based puzzles and dialogue, Frieda will also delve into the memories of her fellow townsfolk to uncover missing pieces about the night Amelie disappeared, “whether they like it or not.” Multiple endings can occur depending on how your investigation goes and what choices you make along the way.

There is no confirmed release date as of yet for Frieda is Changing, but for those eager for a bite-sized first taste, a short demo has already broken loose and is available for download on Steam for Windows PC. You can follow the game’s progress on its official website, and to help complete production there will be an upcoming Kickstarter campaign to provide additional polish and improvements to the game’s development.
