Comedic point-and-click murder mystery unveiled by the creator of Rock 'n' Roll Will Never Die!
Skiing can be dangerous if you're not careful. You can fall and break your neck, impale yourself on a slalom pole, or be wiped out by beginners better off on the bunny hill. Off the slopes, the dangers of cross-country skiing are far less – or so you'd think! But we're about to find out differently in Death Comes Skiing, the upcoming new comedic mystery from solo developer Valtteri Tavast, creator of Rock 'n' Roll Will Never Die!
Once champions of the sport, the now-grey-haired members of a long-retired cross-country ski team gather together at a chalet on "a desolate mountain near the Norwegian border" in Northern Finland. They've reunited for the weekend in order to "celebrate their past victories," but that abruptly changes when one by one the "old ski legends start dying under suspicious circumstances." Stepping up to "make sense of the slaughter" is young Viivi, the granddaughter of one of the skiers who "loves detective stories and mysteries" and is eager to "dig out her magnifying glass and start snooping around." Players will not only need to "search for clues and solve puzzles around the mansion to figure out why everyone is acting so suspicious," but also dig deep into the past to uncover "what dark secrets lie buried under the icy slopes of time" and ultimately "the real reason behind all the mindless butchery."
As with the developer's previous game, Death Comes Skiing is a delightfully cartoon-styled hand-drawn adventure featuring simple point-and-click controls, quirky characters to interrogate, plenty of items to collect and puzzles to solve. There's a mystery to get to the bottom of this time, but despite the more gruesome and grisly subject matter under the lovely Northern Lights, it's just as comedic in tone as its predecessor, intended as "a parody of a classic detective story inspired by many of the wildest events in Nordic sports history and Finnish culture." As a Finn himself, Tavast promises to bring the laughs with a "unique and often brutal look at his home country, its culture, and skiing heroes."
While there's still no firm target release date, Death Comes Skiing has been in development since early 2023 and is getting close to the finish line, expected to launch on Steam sometime in early 2026 for Windows PC.
