The Stepfather revisited in updated remake

2003 point-and-click comedic mystery re-released fully remastered on Steam for Windows, Mac and Linux
There are lots of stories about stepmothers – admittedly, most of them wicked – but very few about stepfathers. Indie Spanish developer Mideas Game Studio has tried to address that imbalance not once but twice now, having just finished remastering and re-releasing their original 2003 comedic mystery, The Stepfather.
The game takes place in the 1920s, an era of "jazz, speakeasies, and gangsters with more ambition than brains." But this isn't our own 1920s as history remembers them. Instead, it's a world where humans and anthropomorphic cows live together, if not exactly in harmony. Milk is now illegal in the big city where a "down-on-his-luck private detective" named Aurelliot Nez finds himself "drowning in debt and short on clients." Things appear to be looking up when a case of missing cows lands in his lap, but this seemingly straightforward mystery proves to be anything but, as Aurelliot soon finds himself attempting to uncover "a dairy smuggling network spread through every dark corner of this thirsty metropolis."
Like its predecessor, The Stepfather Remake is a Godfather-riffing, classic-styled point-and-click cartoon mystery filled with twists and "witty (or absurd) humor." Now enhanced with "high-resolution graphics, an improved soundtrack, and professional voice acting," the game promises over fifteen unique locations to explore, from "rundown offices to secret-filled speakeasies." Along the way you'll encounter more than ten different characters to interact with, of whom "some will help, others will make things worse, but all have something to say." There will be plenty of items to collect and "revamped puzzles" to solve as well, using a simple, intuitive interface that has been "optimized for a smoother experience." Experimentation is not only encouraged but required, because "when your best informant is a blind snitch, and your best lead is a dirty sock, improvisation becomes an art."
If all this sounds like an offer you can't refuse, The Stepfather Remake is available now on Steam for Windows, Mac and Linux.
