Scott Whiskers stayed pretty close to home in his 2024 debut, The Search for Mr. Fumbleclaw. For an encore, the amiable protagonist is ready for something a little more adventurous, which he'll find in Fancy Factory's upcoming sequel, The Search for the Golden Cat

The first game had Scott looking for a real missing cat in his rural European hometown on the eve of a feline beauty contest. The new one sees him scouring a Caribbean island for a fake one when his love of sci-fi wins him an all-expenses-paid vacation to Guatemala. Eager for a tropical adventure upon his arrival, Scott becomes intrigued by the plight of a nearby village, which lost its "sacred relic," the titular golden cat, when it was struck and destroyed by lighting. Without it, Santo Tomas has been "plagued by misfortune and failed harvests" and is running out of time. If the village is to survive, it's up to Scott to venture into the Central American jungle to find the statue's twin and replace it before it's too late.

Apart from an all-new "tongue-in-cheek story," the major change of locale and an "audiovisual update" this time around, The Search for the Golden Cat shares much in common with its predecessor. The sequel will feature approximately fifty vibrantly coloured, hi-res hand-drawn locations in and around the island, each with its own secrets to uncover as you "dive down to sunken pirate ships, explore the claustrophobic cave system of an active volcano and admire the beauty of a long-forgotten, ancient Mayan village." You'll encounter a variety of different fully voiced "multi-layered" characters to talk to in your travels, as well as puzzles to solve using both logic and "around the corner" thinking. The right mouse button cycles between two available options for hotspots ("look" and the context-specific form of "use"), while a highlighter, quick-travel map and a list of current objectives provide plenty of user-friendly features if you need help along the way.

An upcoming Kickstarter campaign will determine how soon we get the full version of The Search for the Golden Cat for PC, consoles and mobile devices. In the meantime, however, a playable demo for the new Scott Whiskers adventure is available now on both Steam and GOG for Windows, Mac and Linux.
