Narrative puzzle game with eternal spiritual stakes available to try on Windows and Mac

Normally we're taught not to judge other people, but in Dream Delivery Center's Deathless Death, it's not only allowed but required as the human arbiter of people's spiritual fates.

Players don the robes of a priest who takes his responsibilities as "God's messenger" very seriously. Part of your job is hearing confessions, and today you'll have four unique visitors. Each is a sinner involved in crimes related to one particular woman, and your task is to "hear their confessions, uncover the secrets of their past, and deliver the final judgment." It won't be a straightforward task, however, as they're all reluctant participants and "their words are laced with lies, self-embellishment, fear, and bravado." To succeed you must "peel away each layer [as] only when the fog of words is cleared will the truth behind the reflections emerge." By listening to the "turmoil in their hearts," you can then attempt to "extinguish the flames of their desires." Ultimately, it will be up to you whether to "redeem or condemn," using "your heart as the scale to weigh their sins and judge their fates." But remember that even as you judge them, "each decision you make shapes a new version of yourself."

Described as a "narrative puzzle game featuring psychological thriller elements," Deathless Death is a unique combination of visual novel-styled conversations and exploratory sequences. As your confessors share more of their stories, their words create a "glimpse into [their] mental landscape," which play out as interactive scenes "filled with thoughts and illusions." Presented in a simple but distinctive art style, these memory segments let you scroll through environments where "emotions cling to objects," ready to be examined using only the mouse to control. As you interact with hotspots, pop-up narrative boxes present some light puzzles to solve, with a tiered hint system to help out if needed. But perhaps the biggest challenge will be a moral one as you must "make decisions that test your ethics while exploring the complexities of the human psyche."

If you're interested in hearing all four confessions, you'll need to wait until sometime this winter when the full version of Deathless Death is released for Windows and Mac. In the meantime, however, Gary and his tale of greed await in the playable demo available now on Steam as part of the Steam Next Fest, which ends on October 21st.
