It may have been a teased as an Easter Egg quite some time ago, but seeing a Sea of Thieves / Monkey Island collaboration confirmed back in June was still a surprise and delight for many fans of the classic adventure game series.

Whilst I'd never taken much of an interest in Rare's multiplayer, open-world pirate action-adventure game before, to see the beloved point-and-click series of my childhood come to life as a whole first-person three-part episodic adventure was an offer I couldn't refuse to pick up and play. Throw in being given the chance to explore classic Monkey Island locations such as Mêlée Island in 3D and converse with iconic characters like Guybrush Threepwood, voiced again by Dominic Armato, and it felt like a one-of-a-kind deal only salesman Stan could manage to top.

I caught up with Dominic as the third and last "Tall Tale" DLC instalment for The Legend of Monkey Island arrives on Sea of Thieves. Without wishing to spoil the first two episodes too much, The Lair of LeChuck will see the player get to explore the infamous Monkey Island alongside Guybrush and, no doubt, many other beloved fan favourites.

We spoke about this episode and the series as a whole, which saw Dominic for the first time having to imagine performing his lines as Guybrush to the player rather than speaking to himself. Dominic also shared his dreams of there one day being a Monkey Island game set in virtual reality. What do you think, readers? Would you play a game where you could potentially be standing side by side with the mighty pirate yourself?

Whilst there may have been some consternation over Ron Gilbert's involvement (or lack thereof) in the Sea of Thieves chapters – the co-creator of Monkey Island clarifying he was given a heads-up by Disney, which own the intellectual property rights, but only when the game was well into development – it was great to hear that the voice directors who worked on the series with Dominic previously were at least called back in for the Sea of Thieves episodes as well.

Whether The Legend of Monkey Island will be the last we see of Guybrush Threepwood of course had to be asked too, but to find out Dominic's thoughts on that, you'll just have to watch the video and find out for yourself!
