Sequel to Mystery of Silence due to arrive sometime in 2027 for PC, consoles and mobile devices
Last year, indie Spanish developer Ayose Trujillo and his Making Enemies studio introduced players to the cerebral point-and-click Scholar Adventure: Mystery of Silence. But an academic's work is never done, it seems, so we'll be right back at it next year in a follow-up mystery subtitled Lost Night.
Last time out, a young writer named William found inspiration for his first book – and a whole lot more – in a remote abbey where a dark secret was concealed by monks upholding their vows of silence. In the new game, William is shipwrecked somewhere even more remote – a very special place in the middle of the desert called Azig. This secret civilization has remained hidden for a millennium, ruled over by the Sun Cult, whose leader built "an astral temple capable of altering the natural order of the world and keeping the region trapped in a cycle of perpetual light." Death doesn't exist here, only "light, prosperity and peace," but the relentless sun has taken its toll, devastating "the city and its temples, burying the hope of its people in the sand, along with its greatest secret: the Night." Guided by notes from the Abbot, players must explore thoroughly and solve puzzles while "in the shadows, the Astreos guard an ancient prophecy and a mysterious painting, a symbol of a forgotten world."
As with its predecessor, Lost Night will be a short (3-4 hours), classic-styled, point-and-click pixel art mystery, atmospherically rich but with "touches of dark humor." The setting is much different, however, drenched in the bright, beige-tinged light of an "endless desert where the sun has not set for a thousand years." As you traverse the temples and weathered stone ruins of this ancient cult, you'll soon discover that "every shadow hides a secret and even the most frightening things happen in broad daylight." With "opposing forces" determined to "preserve the existing order" at all costs, it won't be easy to "uncover the truth that could change the fate of these lands." Fortunately, there are those among the cast of "very peculiar characters" who can aid in your progress, including Tarek, a "young woman who longs to learn about the stars" and will join William in his attempt to "uncover the secrets behind the Great Pyramid, the Sun Cult, and the Astreos."
There is no firm target release date for Lost Night just yet, but prophecy foretells of a launch on Steam sometime in 2027 for Windows and Mac, along with versions for all major consoles and mobile devices.
