Cosmic Fear descends on Steam and Epic for Windows PC

Lovecraft-inspired sci-fi horror available now from the creator of The Land of Pain and The Alien Cube
Many Lovecraft-inspired stories deal with ancient civilizations and expeditions sent deep down into the ice or earth. In solo Italian developer Alessandro Guzzo's newly released Cosmic Fear, however, the threat is very much here and now, and to find it you need to look UP.
Players assume the role of Benedict West, a researcher who has long held that all of the "mysterious phenomena beyond human comprehension" throughout history are somehow connected by one unifying "invisible thread spanning time and space." More alarmingly, from everything you've uncovered, you're convinced that "something is calling from the cosmos’ deepest depths once again." After an invite from two like-minded believers to witness a rare secret occult ritual deep in the forest, you arrive to find no sign of your hosts, only a bloody mess and ominous notes referencing a creature of the lake that has been seen stirring of late. (Don't look now, Benedict, but you're right on the shore of said lake.) With no choice but to investigate alone, you must forge deeper and deeper into the woods, and as day gives way to night you find yourself swept up in a terrifying tale of "alien abductions, military intervention, and ... a horrific truth dating back to humanity’s origins."
As with the developer's previous games, The Land of Pain and The Alien Cube, Cosmic Fear is a first-person, free-roaming adventure controlled via keyboard/mouse or gamepad. And just like its predecessors, the new game sends players through a variety of crisp 3D natural environments, in this case using "cutting‑edge graphics powered by photogrammetry and Unreal Engine 5." Despite the similarities, however, it tells a completely standalone story, promising a "cryptic adventure that blends Lovecraftian cosmic horror with extraterrestrial phenomena and ancient mysteries." Expect some "unpredictable threats" at times, requiring you to "navigate hostile environments" (meaning, run or hide because you're a weak, defenseless human). For the most part, though, the focus is on exploration and investigation into the "forbidden knowledge" uncovered along the way. Unarmed, you'll have only your flashlight to lead the way in the dark, collecting keys and other items (used automatically when needed) as you "search for clues and solve puzzles to progress deeper into the unknown."
The full version of Cosmic Fear is now available to purchase on Steam and the Epic Games Store, or you can check out the playable demo first, exclusively on Steam for Windows PC.
