Alice's Night at the Mansion begins on PC

Short, creepy-cute supernatural adventure available now for download on Steam

Anyone who's ever lost a pet knows how emotionally upsetting it can be, but none of us have ever (hopefully) had to rescue one from a house filled with monsters. Not like the eponymous star of Madvox Games' newly released creepy-cute adventure Alice's Night at the Mansion.

When Alice's dog Dinah is captured by a trio of "eccentric ghosts" and taken back to Monster Mansion, the plucky young heroine has no choice but to go in after her. Freeing the pup won't be easy, however, as this just happens to be the night of the annual Monster Party, so the place is filled with a variety of legendary visitors, including "a kind Witch, a gentlemanly Werewolf, and an eccentric Mummy," among others. To fully scour the place for clues, you'll first need to find a way to get each of the five guests "out of their rooms and into the party." Along the way, you'll also uncover secrets to long-buried mysteries, but you'll also need to deal with the "pesky ghost Pete and his obsessive thievery," who will do everything in his ability to stop you.

Although controlled via keyboard or gamepad, Alice's Night at the Mansion is a point-and-click-inspired game that plays much like a traditional adventure. As Alice, you will navigate the various hand-drawn rooms and hallways of the manor, presented in a "classic 4:3" aspect ratio. There you'll collect "dozens of strange objects" and solve puzzles by "by cooking, reading" and using "every resource" at your disposal. You'll also interact with the various monsters visiting the mansion, including Dracula himself. As you get to know them, they "might regale you with stories about past lovers, garlic revenge, and... barbecued rabbits?" The tone is comedic throughout (think Hotel Transylvania, not Nosferatu), but conversational clues are important if you want to get the best available ending, though how much optional activity you choose to do is up to you. But keep an eye out for ghosts! Or keep an eye on your radar icon, at least, whose blinking will alert you to the presence of any larcenous spirits in the area.
