New adaptation of Tove Jansson’s Nordic fantasy world coming to PC and Switch later this year

The Moomins are everywhere! Hot (or cold, as it were) on the heels of Hyper Games' excellent Moomintroll: Winter’s Warmth earlier this year comes news that another developer is delving into Tove Jansson's Nordic fantasy world with the upcoming adaptation Moomin: Midsummer Madness

This time around there's not a snowflake in sight, but nature has other plans for the creatures of Moominvalley. Midsummer is "right around the corner ... when a sudden flood sets the Moomins adrift." Caught completely unaware, the Moomin family "finds refuge in a mysterious floating theatre." Players assume control of Moomintroll and the feisty Little My, the Mymble, as the pair set out to explore the strange old building and seek a way home – and perhaps get into a little mischief while they're at it. Success requires "solving light puzzles and befriending a quirky cast of characters" along the way, but most importantly the two protagonists will need to "rely on kinship and open hearts, not to mention a little theatrical magic."

Inspired by Jansson’s classic 1954 novel Moominsummer Madness and developed by Crossbridge Game Studios, Midsummer Madness represents a "whimsical reimagining of the Moomin universe" that still remains faithful to the beloved source material, making it accessible to longtime fans and series newcomers alike. Accompanied by an original soundtrack, it's presented in a charming hand-painted art style based on Jansson’s original illustrations, and will feature both familiar faces and "iconic scenes from the original work alongside brand-new stories." Througout this "uplifting fable," the cozy point-and-click gameplay promises a "playful, warm, and family-friendly experience" that's suitable for all ages. Players young and old will switch between Moomintroll and Little My to overcome obstacles, utilizing the "unique traits" of each while working together to "solve mysteries through dialogue, exploration, and mini-games." And should any puzzle prove too difficult, an in-game hint system will "make sure each challenge is relaxing and approachable" throughout a projected 4-6 hours of playtime.

There is no firm target release date just yet, but the rains of Moomin: Midsummer Madness are forecast to arrive on Steam for Windows PC sometime later this year, along with console versions for Nintendo Switch and Switch 2.
