Hand-drawn Victorian-era point-and-click adventure to star a boy and his pet mouse

Apparently support animals existed in Victorian England too, and not just for emotional assistance but practical as well. Okay, fictional ones, anyway. Players can soon experience just such an inseparable human-animal relationship in Think Picture Studios' upcoming point-and-click adventure, Home: A Story of Light.

Grayson Swan, the twelve-year-old son of a famed British inventor, grew up an "intelligent if lonely child" in his family home in Newcastle, his only real friend being his pet mouse. Then, without explanation, Grayson's life is turned upside down when he's abruptly sent by his father to "move in with his estranged aunty and uncle, somewhere in the Yorkshire countryside." But that's nothing compared to the next disruption caused by the arrival of a letter that "triggers a series of events that thrust Grayson and the mouse out into the world, all by themselves." Together, Grayson and his devoted rodent companion must now "set forth on a perilous journey through the northeast of Victorian England"

Described as a "warm but melancholic tale," Home is a hand-drawn classic-styled adventure promising a "subtle alternative history narrative that reveals itself as the plot develops." Gameplay will involve "dynamic interplay between Grayson and the mouse," with player control switching between them at pretermined points in the story. Even when controlling Grayson, however, the mouse will appear in icon form as part of the game's verb coin-style interaction menu for hotspots. As the two protagonists navigate the bucolic countryside and later the harsh rain-drenched streets of the big city, there will be a variety of obstacles to overcome, inventory items to collect and puzzles to solve as they begin "confronting hidden truths that force Grayson to explore what home really means."

Home: A Story of Light has no target release date yet, but the game is now available for wishlisting on Steam ahead of its eventual arrival on Windows, Mac and Linux.
