Demo also available for haunted house thriller from the BrokenLore creators and real-world ghost hunters

If you're going to create a successful ghost-hunting game, you're probably going to want to consult the specialists who actually do that sort of thing in the field. So that's exactly what indie Japanese developer Serafini Productions did for Ghost Frequency, their newly released haunted house thriller made in collaboration with real paranormal investigators.

When two ghost hunters from PIT – Paranormal Investigation Team go missing from a secluded, abandoned house in the woods, it falls on their colleagues Mark and Emily to venture in after them to find out what happened. Players assume the role of Mark, with Emily offering guidance remotely on comms, but what starts out as a routine search for spectral activity soon turns terrifying when a "sinister presence" is revealed and "disturbing paranormal phenomena begin to manifest themselves." Now, armed only with your wits, your courage and some real-world ghost-hunting tools, your mission becomes to "survive the night and uncover the chilling mysteries lurking in the shadows."

While Ghost Frequency shares much in common with the developer's ongoing BrokenLore series, from its first-person, free-roaming 3D mechanics to lots of scary things going bump in the night, there are several notable differences as well. Promising a blend of "technical exploration with bone-chilling psychological horror," much of the game's footage is shot with a bodycam with both regular and thermal imaging, whose battery power you'll need to monitor, accompanied by the use of actual ghost-hunting equipment and processes. Don't have fancy gadgets like an EMF (electromagnetic frequencies) detector and EVP (electronic ghost phenomenon) recorder? No problem; just whip out your phone and bring up the Ghost Finder Tools designed by the real-world Italian couple who inspired the game. Even those won't help you, however, when the environment begins to change based on your actions, and you find yourself wandering alone in the dark with just a match to light your way.

Designed to be a "compact" title that could lead to more and bigger adventures in the future, Ghost Frequency is out now on Steam for Windows PC. If you'd like to test your mettle on an even more compact version of it first, you can do that as well via the playable demo that's also available to download.
