Demo coming soon for cozy musical point-and-click adventure from the creators of Lucy Dreaming and Little Seeds Music

What could be more uplifting (in more ways than one) than a game about a cat in space? How about a musical game about a cat in space! Better yet, a musical point-and-click adventure game about a cat in space from the creator of Lucy Dreaming and the upcoming Heir of the Dog! That's exactly what we'll be getting later this year, as indie British studio Tall Story Games is teaming up with music and theatre specialists Little Seeds Music to produce a delightful-looking family-friendly game called – you guessed it – Adventures of a Cat in Space.

Players assume the role of said cat, who chases a mouse (as cats often do) into a nearby rocket ship and accidentally causes it to blast off into space (which cats usually don't). Now you're stuck, with no gravity, no nav system, no way even to communicate with the ship's computer, voiced by Olivier Award-winning actor and musician Arthur Darvill (Doctor Who, Broadchurch, Legends of Tomorrow). If you're to get the ship functioning properly for a return trip home, you'll need to "explore a vast and colourful array of planets, solve puzzles, and unlock songs" that will have you bobbing your head and tapping your paws all the way back to Earth.

Commissioned by The Space with additional funding from Arts Council England, Adventures of a Cat in Space is a cozy interactive experience that aims to combine "the magic of musical theatre and interactive storytelling for players of all ages." Designed not just for children but for families to play together (not to mention any adult whose inner child never really grew up), the game features a cute little protagonist, delightful cartoon art style, charming sense of humour, intuitively simple point-and-click interface, and a variety of puzzle challenges that won't stump experienced gamers but will challenge younger players to think logically and make connections, such as the universal translator machine that requires completion of four different sequences of numbers and symbols.

As you progress through your intergalactic journey, what makes this game stand out even more is its incorporation of eleven original songs, composed by children’s author David Gibb and performed by Little Seeds Music with contributions from various other guest singers and musicians. The songs comprise a diverse range of genres, including "rock, pop, drum and bass, jazz, funk, soul and a whole lot more," each contributing to a soundtrack that Gibb describes as "full of musical surprises and ... something really joyful."

There is no firm target release date just yet, but Adventures of a Cat in Space is expected to launch sometime later this year. The good news is that a playable demo will be launching February 24th for PC on Steam, Nintendo Switch and iOS on the App Store to coincide with Steam’s upcoming Next Fext event. It won't take long to complete, taking place entirely aboard the three-storey spaceship traversed via elevator, but having played the demo already myself, I can't think of many better ways to shake off winter doldrums while it lasts! To learn more in the meantime, be sure to pop by the official website for additional details about the game and its accomplished collaborators.
