Apocalyptic puzzle-platforming adventure with time-manipulation mechanic unveiled by the creators of A Juggler's Tale
The post office may be undeterred by rain, snow, sleet or hail from making their appointed rounds, but what about the end of the world? That'd put a crimp in anyone's delivery schedule. Fortunately, players will have an extra trick up their sleeve besides envelopes in RECUR, the upcoming time-bending puzzle-platformer from kaleidoscube, creators of A Juggler’s Tale.
You're just a regular ol' postman on a regular ol' day of delivering mail – or so you think when you first start out. But today is "anything but average" as it's destined to become the end of the world as we know it. Much to your surprise, you turn out to be anything but average too, as you discover you have the hitherto unknown "power to control time itself." Now you are the planet's last hope, as "by moving forwards or backwards, you alone control the flow of time to solve problems, change outcomes, and discover secrets as you try to prevent the apocalypse." Along the way, you may just uncover clues that reveal the mystery of how you came upon your newfound powers in the first place.
As with the developer's previous game, RECUR is a stylish side-scrolling adventure that blends running and jumping with using your brain to survive. As you progress through a crumbling urban landscape, you must deal with all sorts of obstacles both small and "gargantuan," from aggressive dogs (you ARE a postman, after all) to explosions and collapsing buildings, challenging you to "think beyond reflexes, combining classic platforming gameplay with intricate puzzles." You can physically interact with the environment, of course, but to succeed here you'll also have to harness your gift to "rewind, fast-forward, and pause time itself." By strategically manipulating time to your advantage, you'll see the effects not just on a "small scale for each individual puzzle, but also on a large scale when walking through the city and experiencing the recurring catastrophe."
Assuming the world's postal workers keep us all alive until then, RECUR will be launched on Steam sometime in 2026 for Windows PC. To follow its progress in the meantime, be sure to check out the game's official website.
