First-person 3D post-apocalyptic mystery available now to download for Windows PC

Imagine you and a sibling were the last people left alive. (Thankfully we only need to imagine it.) Now imagine finding out that there might be other survivors too, except they've all inexplicably gone missing. Where things go from there you don't need to imagine, as you can find out for yourselves in solo developer Cem Boray Yıldırım's newly released post-apocalyptic mystery, Once Alive.

Players step into the shoes of a young man named Jim, who believes he and his brother are the only ones left standing following a cataclysmic viral outbreak that devastated humanity sixteen years earlier. At least, so he thought until he "discovers an invitation to a survivors' base" called HaustVille. Jim is reluctant to leave behind the safety of their home, but his brother is determined to find any others that remain. And so the two "abandon everything and travel to HaustVille, but as they arrive they sense that something is wrong." The walled-off settlement seems eerily deserted, but not due to the ravages of the virus, as most of the graves indicate that the victims died at the age of 57. It's up to you to explore the village and its surrounding environments in search of answers behind its "mysterious emptiness," all while being careful not to become the next ones to disappear.

Presented in free-roaming, first-person 3D, Once Alive opens up the entire area in and around HaustVille to explore, and "every place has a story to tell." It's a beautifully bleak world rich with haunting atmosphere and filled with details to uncover, whether through "environmental storytelling ... objects left behind by other survivors" or what's known as "speech echoes," which act like hazy memory remnants of the village's former residents. It's up to you to unpack the clues and figure out what tragedy befell this seemingly devoutly religious community. You'll need to solve a variety of puzzles and avoid some traps along the way, but you'll also need to beware an "increasingly hostile wilderness where heightened aggression in animals adds to the survival challenge."

If you're ready to dive into a world of desolation and intrigue, you can get started right away as Once Alive is available now on Steam for Windows PC.
