The Adventures of Tango Rio begin on Kickstarter

Demo available for classic-styled hand-drawn comic mystery adventure set on a tropical Polynesian island

If someone close to you is going to up and disappear suddenly without a trace, the least they could do is make sure it happens on a lovely tropical island. Fortunately that's precisely the case in The Adventures of Tango Rio, an upcoming point-and-click comic mystery adventure from Bean Adventure Agency, currently on Kickstarter. 

Two years ago, Santiago Rio's latest treasure hunt resulted in "an incredible discovery in the Aloe Archipelago: a stone that can open time portals." Unfortunately, everything goes disastrously awry when the stone is broken and Santiago gets sent back in time and stuck in the year 1790, leaving only his shady brother-in-law Dante behind. Santiago's adult son Tango grew up to be very different than his adventurous father, becoming a "cynical and disillusioned postman" whose life is steady, safe and predictable. But Tango's stable routine is turned upside down when out of the blue he receives a letter from his missing father whose only clue leads to a remote island in Polynesia. And so, "more annoyed than excited" but determined to get to the bottom of the mystery, Tango "finds himself dragged into an adventure that will push his patience to the limit — with puzzles, ancient secrets, and his uncle Dante always up to something sneaky in the background."

Inspired by the classic LucasArts adventures and modern animated film productions such as Moana and The Croods, The Adventures of Tango Rio is a beautifully hand-drawn point-and-click adventure blending "heart, humor, and mystery." Using a verb coin-styled interface, players will explore numerous locations around the sunny tropical archipelago, from the docks to a church to various straw-roofed shop huts, including a tattoo parlor. You'll search high and low for clues to Santiago's whereabouts – literally, from the top of a cliff with a scenic view of the coastline, to the depths of the sea on a diving expedition – meeting a diverse cast of characters along the way. You'll of course need to collect many useful objects for your inventory and solve puzzles to progress through a story that that promises to be "brimming with ancestral rituals, legends, wild dances, and mysterious Vatican prophecies."

In order to complete The Adventures of Tango Rio, its indie Italian developer has launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise €8,000 by December 22th, as a well as a playable demo that represents the first chapter of the game. If all goes well, we could be Polynesia-bound for good by the end of 2025 on Windows, Mac and Linux through Steam and GOG.
