VR-exclusive follow-up to Down the Rabbit Hole launching exclusively on for Meta Quest and Pico headsets
Just as Lewis Carroll took readers to the magical world of Wonderland more than once, so too is indie developer Cortopia Studios, who are about to follow up their 2020 fantasy VR adventure Down the Rabbit Hole with a brand new installment called Escaping Wonderland.
The first game took place before the arrival of Alice, with a young girl tumbling into Wonderland in search of her lost pet Patches. The new game tells a brand a new tale with a different "plucky protagonist" who arrives with no memory of her life before she got here. Still not Alice, but rather a girl named Molly, who has been "unwittingly pulled into [this] world from her distant past." Getting back home again will require finding the parts to a broken machine, which won't be easy but looks to be a whole lot of fun as players once again puzzle their way through "perplexing challenges ... in an enchanting landscape where up is down, left is right, and nothing is quite as it seems (except when it is, and even then, it might not be)." The more you progress, the more you'll discover the "curious truth that sometimes the best way out is further in." Gradually, you'll begin piecing together the mystery of "what Molly is really escaping from" and help her recover he memories, with all the consequences that entails.
As with its predecessor, Escaping Wonderland is a VR-exclusive adventure that combines first-person interactions with third-person diorama-style navigation through a fantastical realm filled with "enchantment and just the right dash of delightful nonsense." There will be plenty of whimsical puzzles to solve, whether logic brain-teasers or environmental manipulations that will allow Molly to proceed. And of course you'll meet a number of familiar faces from Carroll's work, including the likes of the Cheshire Cat, Tweedle-dee and Tweedle-dum, and the Red Queen, along with a "fresh-faced supporting cast" who may similarly help or hinder your efforts as they see fit.
For curious minds wondering about the release date, it's not long at all, as Escaping Wonderland is due to arrive on Meta Quest and Pico VR headsets on September 26th.
