Indonesian action-horror mystery game with a child protagonist available now to download on Steam

To a child, the world can be a big, scary place – sometimes due to overactive imaginations, and sometimes because it IS a big, scary place. A little of both is likely to be true for the child star of Let Me Out, the newly released psychological horror adventure from Indonesian developer 4Happy Studio.

It's the 1960s when a ten-year-old "indigo" child named Alvin wakes up from a sleeping nightmare to a waking one. All of the doors are locked, but there's no sign of anyone anywhere in the village, including Alvin's mother. Could it have something to do with his father's investigation into a group of "black magic killers" who recently reappeared after many years in hiding? To discover what happened and hopefully be reunited with his missing mother, Alvin must first escape the family home and thoroughly explore Mata Koetjhing, his ancient Javanese village, with help from his pet spider and the spirit of his dead sister Jane. It won't be easy, however, as the village seems to have fallen under a curse and is now filled with ghosts and other creatures and demons from Indonesian mythology, which you'll need to exorcise by brewing potions according to instructions found in your guidebook.

Described as an "action-horror mystery game," Let Me Out promises a "gloomy" nighttime atmosphere but presents its "whimsical tale through a semi-realistic cartoon art style." Players can freely roam the third-person 3D environments in search of clues that will help "uncover the dark secrets" of the young protagonist's own past. Along the way you'll find a variety of puzzles that may require the assistance of Poko, Alvin's spider, who is able to fit into small spaces the boy cannot. When you're stuck, the ghost of Jane, who tragically died at the age of five but has appeared to Alvin in ethereal form ever since, can be summoned to provide hints that may get you back on your way. But beware, as the demons now infesting the village are "ready to hunt anybody whose presence disturbs them." To survive you may need to run and hide or fight them off with your trusty slingshot, but to rid the village of them for good, you must collect and combine ingredients in your inventory, and craft the right potions correctly via light minigame activities.

Brave exorcists can start confronting Indonesian spirits right away, as Let Me Out is available now on Steam for Windows PC.
