New point-and-click pixel art horror adventure from Cosmic Void coming to PC on September 10th

Cosmic Void clearly doesn't believe in taking breaks. With their point-and-click fantasy adventure Twilight Oracle set to arrive later this month, and an updated commercial re-release of the Tachyon Dreams Anthology planned for early summer, now the indie developer has unveiled the first details of their next original new game, Devil's Hideout.

After a seemingly fatal car crash, a young woman named Lauren believed she'd lost her ten-year-old sister Beth forever. Now, however, Beth's empty grave offers reason to believe that she may still be alive – or rather, "among spirits, in the space between here and the abyss." A medium helps Lauren to understand that Beth is being held captive by a cult that values her for her special paranormal abilities. The only way to rescue Beth is to revisit the town where she was treated and set up a "spirit radio" to establish contact with her. And so Lauren heads back to the hospital where she believed her sister perished, along with her supportive stalwart friend Atticus. When they arrive, however, they find that the once-bustling town and medical facility are now nearly devoid of life, though there are still troublesome authorities around who could ruin everything. Lauren and Atticus will need to remain covert if they're to uncover the evil conspiracy happening here and get everyone back out alive.

After a couple games exploring other thematic genres, Devil's Hideout represents the developer's return to "pure horror" first explored in 2021's The Corruption Within. As with that title, this one is a first-person, slideshow-style adventure with a simple single-click interface and stylish pixel art graphics and eerie atmospheric soundscape, although this time you're accompanied by a companion. There will be plenty of items to collect and puzzles to solve along the way, but also a "dark presence" standing in your way, attempting to prevent you from reaching Beth. The obstacles in your path are intended to convey a sense of dread and fear (along with the occasional jump scare), like you've plunged "headfirst into a nightmare."

Surprisingly, the release of Devil's Hideout isn't that far off, as the game already has a September 10th launch date on Steam. But you don't even need to wait that long for your first few chills, as a playable demo is available to download now for Windows PC.
