Gentle-paced "reflective" puzzle adventure to be published by Annapurna for PC and consoles
Being entrusted with someone else's happiness is a huge responsibility. Being entrusted with EVERYONE else's happiness is a whole different story, as we'll find out next year in Marumittu Games' upcoming puzzle adventure D-topia.
There isn't supposed to be any unhappiness in this game, as the "artificial intelligence-managed ... Utopia Project was created in the interest of maximizing human happiness and comfort." Of course, "supposed to be" and "isn't" are entirely different things, and it's up to you to make things right when they inevitably start to go wrong. Players control the newest Facilitator at the titular D-topia, whose job is to "resolve issues around the residential community." Usually disruptions are simply mechanical in nature, but in between repairing malfunctions to "keep the facilities running smoothly [you will] meet the many vibrant residents, each with their own unique story and personal struggle." In doing so you'll come to realize that humans are complex creatures who aren't easily placated by even the most advanced systems, so "what happens when problems go beyond the mechanical?" The actions you take and decisions you make promise to "impact the wellbeing of the residents, and the future of humanity." But hey, no pressure.
Described as a "gentle-paced, reflective puzzle adventure," D-topia presents its immaculately clean, sterile setting via a charming pastel cel-shaded look and free-roaming third-person perspective. Whenever mechanical problems arise, players must "move between the bright, public reality and the hidden 'Block Side' to fix glitches and uncover secrets" by solving a variety of different logic puzzles. But when issues are more personal and emotional in nature, you'll have to get to know D-topia’s residents more intimately to "gain their trust, discover their stories, and shape their futures in unexpected ways." Will your choices guide a fragile society "toward joy or despair," and what will that ultimately look like? The gameplay experience is meant to be a "calm, yet thought-provoking journey to discover what happiness truly means" and "in a world of curated happiness, what does it mean to find purpose?"
No firm target release date has yet been announced, but D-topia will be published by Annapurna Interactive sometime in 2026 for Windows PC on Steam and Epic, along with console versions for PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch platforms.
