Next Fest demo currently available for upcoming "anxiety-horror thriller about paranoia in the End of Times"

In these days of AI and deep fakes, it can be hard to know if someone is really real in photos or online. But at least we can still tell the difference face to face, live and in person, right? Well, it might not be quite that easy anymore. At least, it won't be in Trioskaz's upcoming survival thriller No, I'm not a Human, a game in which mistakes in judgment may prove fatal.

A cataclysmic solar flare has brought about the end of the world as we know it, and the only safe space now is your home. Outside, "acrid aromas of sun-scorched streets fill the air [and] blackened corpses gnarled into shapes of agony line streets." Occasionally you'll get a knock at the door from "a solitary voice, begging for refuge." The problem is, they might not be human but rather one of the deadly "Visitors" roaming around at night, determined to get in. These Visitors "look like us, talk like us, smell like us," so who can you trust? You can't stay locked in alone forever, as the Visitors will overwhelm you eventually, so you'll have to invite "the right ones" in. To distinguish real from fake, you must question your guests to "hear their stories" and "look for the signs." Some of them will need your help, and others can help you, but the Visitors will kill you unless you kill them first. In times of peril, you must be prepared to "do what must be done."

Described as an "anxiety-horror thriller about paranoia in the End of Times," No, I'm not a Human is a first-person 3D adventure that puts players directly in charge of making life-or-death decisions. The whole game takes place inside your house, resulting in an "intimate story" about the people you choose to let in (or not). TV reports will offer helpful clues about who might be a Visitor intent on ending your life when you let your guard down, but some signs that would seem to indicate guilt are "too vague and can apply to ordinary people as well." Paying close attention to all available information is crucial, as the outcome of the story depends on your choices, for better or worse. You "might kill too many ordinary people or let too many Visitors into the house," to name a couple possible disastrous variations. Nor can you simply memorize patterns from mistakes you've made, as new stories for each guest are randomly generated with each playthrough, so that "with every new start, you need to learn again who is a guest and who is a human."

There is no firm target release date just yet, but No, I'm not a Human is set to unlock on Steam sometime before the end of this year for Windows PC, with console versions for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S planned as well. During the ongoing Steam Next Fest, which ends on June 16th, a playable demo of the game is available to download, offering you the first chance to decide who lives and who dies on your watch.
