Split-screen underwater co-op adventure available now for download on Windows PC
There's a world of adventure lurking deep below the ocean surface, but much of it is potentially hazardous, so it's probably best for anyone daring to plumb its watery depths to bring along a friend. Fortunately that's exactly what you can do in Deepest Trench, the newly released split-screen co-op adventure from Favor Games.
Although in this case, "friends" is a stretch, as the two protagonists are anything but. They have a history together and a deep animosity toward each other, which they'll have to get over, and fast, if they're to carry out their top-secret military operation deep in the Mariana Trench. A covert facility on the sea floor has been rocked by an underwater earthquake and its inhabitants forced to evacuate. It's your job to team up and repair any breaches and restore power and oxygen to make it functional once again – "no more, no less." Putting aside your differences, you and your partner will need to "navigate through hazardous underwater environments filled with obstacles, creatures, and other dangers," and work together to solve "mind-bending puzzles that challenge your intellect and resourcefulness." You must also make crucial choices based on the shocking discoveries about the real purpose of this facility that you unearth along the way.
Deepest Trench is a two-person experience that can be played either locally or through Remote Play, with images of each protagonist displayed in split-screen fashion. But even if you can see what your counterpart is doing, success still very much depends on "communication, teamwork, and quick thinking" to survive the many perils in your path. Running out of air seems to be the least of your concerns, if the trailer is any indication, confronting you with sharks, explosions, and other catastrophes, so you'll need to "coordinate movements, share discoveries, and strategize to overcome obstacles and adversaries." As you progress further, the "challenges become more intense and the mysteries more intriguing," and you can't always count on predictable patterns to avoid or overcome them, as "unexpected events and encounters [ensure] that each dive into the trench is a unique and memorable experience."
If you and a fellow diver feel you're up to the challenge, you can take the plunge right away as Deepest Trench is available now on Steam for Windows PC.
