Cyberpunk body horror story available now for download on Meta Quest and Steam VR headsets
Virtual reality may be a wonder of modern technology, but rampant abuse of technology represents a very real threat, and the more advanced it is, the bigger the danger. Players can experience both the highs and the lows of the technological age in Akupara Games' newly released sci-fi VR horror story, Hello Cruel World.
Players control an urban explorer in search of the next thrill at a place called the Crab 'n Grab, sent there at the urging of your online following. It may seem to be just a "trashy seafood restaurant a thousand miles from the sea," but your chat group insists there's something sinister lingering here. And indeed, you soon stumble upon a "deadly, decrepit laboratory" underneath the restaurant, where it becomes clear that a woman is being held against her will, and has been for a very long time as she's subjected to experimental torture tests to see how much she can endure. It's up to you to save her and uncover the secrets of this place, but even just surviving will be a challenge in a facility crawling with robotic spiders, livewire electrical shorts, the "rotten remains of the holding cells in Sector Three, and all those finnicky, experimental gadgets stored in Sector Four."
Presented in free-roaming, first-person 3D and designed from the ground up as a VR experience, Hello Cruel World sends players deeper and deeper into the haunting, darkened environs of what used to be an old asylum. To progress you'll need to solve a variety of puzzles while avoiding the perils of this place. Here both your ingenuity and nerve will be put to the test, challenging you to "think fast, think on your feet, and think outside the box." Along the way, your followers urge you to continue on, to "keep pushing your limits," but is everything down here what it seems? It appears you're being tested yourself, and "only the unhindered scientific mind can crack open the nature of the universe," one that refuses to let "empathy or ethics get in the way of true, unmitigated process."
If you've got the steely resolve needed to overcome the challenges of Hello Cruel World, there's nothing holding you back as the game is now available to download for Meta Quest and Steam VR devices.
