Bloody Horror Plant to sprout up later this year
Hand-drawn point-and-click horror comedy from the creator of Wonderland Quest unveiled for Windows PC
Funky Forest sure does like to keep busy. Not only is the indie developer’s fantasy adventure Wonderland Quest nearing release, but there’s another new game just around the corner as well, this time in the form of a comedy horror called Bloody Horror Plant.
The titular bloody horror plant may sound like the villain in this piece, but really it’s an agent for good – albeit a particularly violent, carnage-causing agent of good. That’s because the “beautiful, relaxing forest where happy creatures live is now occupied by evil dwarves” who are wreaking havoc with the natural environment. So who better than a carnivorous Little Shop of Horrors-like plant to infiltrate the evil dwarf settlements and “wipe them all out” to restore peace and order once again?
Described by its designer as “probably the bloodiest casual point-and-click adventure game ever,” Bloody Horror Plant embraces its gory nature with tongue firmly in cheek. Promising “subtle humor and loads of evil dwarf blood,” the game is presented in a charmingly cartoony hand-drawn art style that belies its brutal subject matter, accompanied by “funny character voiceovers and relaxing ambient nature sounds.” You can’t just go around killing willy-nilly, though, as you must plan out your strategy to succeed. As you explore the forest at various levels, from high up in the trees to deep underground, you’ll need to solve a variety of puzzles along the way. Some of the levels even have multiple endings, encouraging replays to try different things.
There is no firm target release date just yet, but work on Bloody Horror Plant is nearly complete and we could see the game launched on Steam and itch.io for Windows PC as early as Halloween, with mobile versions also being considered.
