Upcoming prequel to 2021 narrative adventure Road 96 adds musical component for PC and consoles in Mile 0

In 2021, French developer DigixArt introduced players to the troubled authoritarian nation of Petria in the acclaimed cross-country narrative adventure, Road 96. This year we'll be treated to a prequel called Road 96: Mile 0, promising much of the same compelling choice-driven character drama while also adding a distinctive musical component.

Taking place just prior to the events of Road 96, the game is set in Petria’s "only luxurious community," where a pair of teenagers from opposite backgrounds form an unlikely bond of friendship. The first one returning players will recognize, the sheltered Zoe, whose family "comes from the rich side of the city and her father works for President Tyrak's government as the Minister of Oil." The second is Kaito, who grew up in a dangerous city but two years ago "moved with his parents to the rich condominium of White Sands" in pursuit of a better life. Zoe finds herself drawn to Kaito's "darkness," and "spending time with him will lead her to uncover disturbing truths about her country and even her own father." Before long events will conspire to put their friendship to the test, and it will be up to you to decide their fates.

At first glance, Mile 0 would appear to be a carbon copy of its predecessor, with a slightly stylized 3D cinematic presentation and a heavy focus on player choice. Entirely new this time around, however, is the inclusion of "crazy ... metaphorical music sequences where you ride through the beliefs and doubts of Zoe and Kaito." Not only will players get to explore the young protagonists' physical surroundings, but their imaginary "inner worlds" as well. As you "skate through psychedelic musical rides" in rhythm-based gameplay sequences, success (or failure) will help "influence and shape their emotional journey."

Road 96: Mile 0 is coming up fast, as the game is due to launch on Steam for Windows PC on April 4th, along with console versions for PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch platforms.
