Interactive audio mystery with voice cast led by Rosamund Pike available for iOS and Android
By their very nature, video games are a largely graphic medium that allows few opportunities for the visually impaired. The aptly named indie Czech team Play By Ears is seeking to change that, however, with the mobile release of their debut interactive audio mystery, Evidence 111.
It’s 1985, and Chief Inspector Alice Wells receives a mysterious phone call from an anonymous stranger who “apparently knows some shameful facts from her past [that] will put Alice’s professional integrity and her morality to the test.” Not wanting to jeopardize the career she worked exhaustively to achieve at age 33, Alice makes her way to the old Harbor Watch Inn on the “remote Cork Island, where no one is to be trusted.” From that point on, players will be required to “make more and more difficult decisions between what is right and what is easy,” with the the protagonist’s fate literally in their hands.
Promising “a world full of intrigue, colorful characters, and mysteries from the past,” in many respects Evidence 111 is a traditional choose-your-own-adventure-style narrative adventure in which players make key choices that send the story in different branching directions leading to one of ten possible endings. What makes this game particularly stand out is its binaural audio presentation and simple swipe-based mechanics that make it more accessible even for those with eyesight impairment, as well as an acclaimed voice cast led by Rosamund Pike (The Wheel of Time, I Care a Lot, Gone Girl), Zoë Robins (The Shannara Chronicles, The Wheel of Time), and Mike Bodie (Spectral, Love, Death & Robots), among others.
If you like the sound of Experience 111, so to speak, you can find it now on either the App Store for iOS or Google Play for Android devices, free to try with an in-app purchase to download the rest of the game.
