Early access point-and-click adventure set inside a failing computer system to be complete on March 24th

Computer crashes are bad, bad things. But all the more so when you happen to be a piece of computer code stuck inside one as it approaches its fateful end – and especially so if you're the one who caused it in the first place. This the challenge that awaits in Aurora Game Studio's Nefasto's Misadventure: Meeting Noeroze, a colourfully zany point-and-click adventure that is due to be completed in March.

The titular character is a bit of anthropomorphized game data. The problem is that Nefasto is bad code, a bug, a "hazardous aggregate of 0s and 1s." His mere presence threatens to destroy the virtual world around him, and take down the entire computer with it. The countdown is on until full meltdown occurs with Nefasto still trapped inside, doomed to be destroyed unless he's able to stabilize the system in time. Players must guide the wisecracking Nefasto through a series of obstacles – many of his own creation – if he's to prevent the crash, even if it's the last thing he does (and if you're not careful, it just might be).

With its colourful cartoon graphics, side-scrolling presentation, cheery chiptune soundtrack, and a bit of running and jumping, at first glance Nefasto's Misadventure seems more like a lost 16-bit console game from the 1990s. There's even the odd boss fight to fend off those wreaking havoc by further corrupting this "glitched" universe. However, it's very much a point-and-click adventure at heart (playable either with a mouse or gamepad), with plenty of unusual characters to meet, items to collect and "twisted" puzzles to solve along the way, with or without the help of "Binary Powers" you receive from a "group of entities called Bytes ... but only if they are in a conciliatory mood." At times you'll even switch to another playable character named Noeroze on a fourth-wall-breaking journey that promises plenty of twists and turns on the way to one of multiple different endings, including "lots of happy ones ... but maybe not for everyone."

Originally released through early access in December 2020, Nefasto's Misadventure: Meeting Noeroze is at last nearly complete and is due to be launched on March 24th on Steam for Windows PC, along with a Switch version on the Nintendo eShop.
