Sandbox “friend ’em up” adventure game on a sun-drenched island of Greek gods unveiled by the creators of Röki

Greek gods can be a fickle lot at the best of times, but all the more so when they're suffering a fearful identity crisis, as is the case in Mythwrecked: Ambrosia Island, an upcoming "sandbox friend ’em up adventure" from Polygon Treehouse, the creators of Röki.

Players assume the role of a young backpacker named Alex, who becomes shipwrecked on the seemingly idyllic titular island after a terrible storm. As it turns out, the island is the "long-lost home of the Greek pantheon of gods," but not only are the gods unable to help Alex, they can't even help themselves as they've been cursed and forgotten even who they are. In order to figure out what has happened and hopefully get back home, Alex will need to find and befriend the various gods scattered around the sun-drenched island to help rekindle their memories.

With its stylish aesthetic, female protagonist and third-person perspective, Mythwrecked shares more than a few similarities with its acclaimed predecessor, though here you'll be exploring an island "packed full of mystery and secrets, from its turquoise shores to the heights of its ancient temple walls." Promising a "nonlinear, emotional story about the importance of friendship, family, and community," the game sees players scouring the island for its troubled deities, some of whom are much harder to find than others. Once you do, you'll need earn their trust by "performing odd jobs and favors, overcoming puzzles and challenges to restore parts of the island, returning lost mementos, and inquiring about specific objects and locales" in order to jog their memories.

Fortunately you're armed with your trusty Ambrosidex, whose radar signal will aid you in hunting for the many "lost godly treasures hidden all over the island." Only by "completing the right tasks and asking the right questions will [you] trigger flashbacks and reveal the story of the island’s curse." However, as the game has a dynamic day/night cycle, "some locations and puzzles may only be accessible at certain times of day." You'll also need to show some discretion in talking to the gods to learn what they know, as "some sensitive topics may be off limits until you have earned their friendship."

There's no firm target release date just yet, but Mythwrecked: Ambrosia Island is due to launch on Steam for Windows PC sometime in 2023.
